This pattern uses less than one skein of cloud cotton.

My sister inspired me to design a beginner pattern. She has crocheted for years and was leery at trying her hand at knitting, so I decided to tempt her beyond her doubts. I created a simple pattern that required only knit, purl, and a button opening, in her favorite color, blue. To ensure her success I included written directions as well as a chart. Furthermore, I sent this pattern off to be tech edited to make certain it would be as universally understood as possible.

As to the specifics behind the “Off the Cuff” design, I find cuffs on garments rather interesting as they intentional expose of the wrong side of a work. The seed stitch alters to emulate the structure of a cuff. The...

The Geometry in Motion cowl pattern is a versatile design, which compliments any outfit. The diamond pattern moves with you creating stunning visual effects. Keep warm, stylish, and comfy through the workday, on the go, or chilling with friends at the pool hall. Knit in Kollage’s Milky Whey, a milk soy blend, these cowls are as soft as angora but animal fiber (and cruelty) free.

This cowl pattern set includes written directions, pictures, and a chart for both a button-up version, which is knit flat, and the over the head version, which is knit in the round version. Tech edited by Katherine Vaughan.

Salt Hill is a two-color cable scarf and is the first pattern released from the Synchronicity E-book. The pattern includes a full tutorial, showing how to work all the stitches included.

The striking cable pattern pops out of the background to create an
extra-warm, distinctive scarf, and, if you can cable, then this technique is very easy to learn.

The scarf can be knitted in any two yarns that have identical width and weight, however, gauge will not be the same if using yarns other than the Baah! Yarn specified.

Materials
Baah! La Jolla; 100% Merino/400yds/100grams (or any two identical fingering weight yarns) Model shown made with 1 skein of Night Sky (CC) 1 skein of Grey Onyx (MC)

US#4/3.5mm needles
Cable needle (optional)

Rachel is a slightly flared double crochet skirt with lace ruffles on the bottom. You choose how many rows of lace you want at the bottom of your skirt! Instructions are given for 7 different lace patterns, which can be place in any order, use several different laces, switch off between two, or even just make a few rows of the same one, it is all up to you! Due to the fact that you choose how many ruffles to make, the smaller child sizes can be almost entirely covered in ruffles if that is what you want, and the adult sizes can have the ruffles just at the bottom, so the hips and thighs are not made larger by ruffles. Length is also left up to the creator, so this skirt can be short or long. It has a slight flair, so movement is not an issue as it gets longer. There are many process pictures included...

In my hunt for a great ear flap hat, I just couldn’t find what I wanted! I was looking for one that had the ear flaps made within the last several rows. I just love the look of those. Unfortunately, every pattern I found was just not quite what I wanted. The flaps were the wrong size, or they sat at the wrong angle, or they stood straight out from the hat, or just didn’t lay flat, or something else! So I gave it a go. I also worked in a fun stripe pattern, as well! Links to video tutorials are included for several stitches and techniques that are used in this pattern.

This pattern is unisex and includes all sizes from preemie to adult large. As with all my sale patterns, this pattern has been tested for typos and clarity. However, if you do find any errors or have any problems with this pattern,...

Flora was originally created as a part of a Flower Faerie costume for one of my daughters. Many photos where snapped during its creation. The result is a lovely written pattern accompanied by many pictures to help you along! Flora can be made to the length of your choice, just keep in mind that this skirt tends to grow, so don’t make it too long. Instructions for an optional leaf and vine trim for the hem is included. At the end of this pattern you will find some line drawings you can use to help plan out colors. There are even a few hem variation ideas listed at the end of this pattern to help you make Flora fit your personality. Emma is a playful skater skirt inspired by a UK reality star, and the lovely ice skating ladies of the 2014 Olympics. This pattern features my unique less~bulky crochet waistband. There are photos to help you along and a few videos for extra explanation, though everything is completely explained in the text of the pattern. Emma also features a decorative border which can be made in another color for a bit of variety! The fun raised stripes down the skirt are made with front post treble crochet stitches, and make the increases very easy. The sizes on this pattern are listed by hip size as the skirt needs to be pulled up over the hips, and the waist is easily adjusted by the length of the elastic that runs through the waistband.

A while back I asked a group of ladies here what kind a pattern they would like to see. The first response was from knilesknitter, and she said she would love a shrug that covered her breasts and stayed there. She loves the circle shrugs, but hates when they don’t actually close. Amelia is a fun, twirly skirt that fits a variety of shapes and sizes. The sides of the skirt are open from the waist on up. To wear the skirt, simply step on in and tie the back section around your waist, then wrap the front section around and tie. Or switch and tie the front section first, it is a matter of preference, creating a different look each way. The finished hem length is also entirely up to you; just stop knitting when your desired length is reached. Remember, this skirt flares, and the longer it gets, the wider it gets, so it can use quite a bit of yarn as the length increases.

This pattern includes 6 patterns, first is a make~your~own pattern, which explains how to make the skirt based on your own measurements, so you can use any size yarn, any gauge, and any stitch you want. The remaining patterns are written for fingering, sport, DK, worsted, and chunky weight...

The Amalthea Hat can be made from what is left of one skein each of Frabjous Fibers/Wonderland Yarns Unicorn and Cheshire Cat yarns after making the Amalthea shawl ~ The shawl pattern can be found free online here: www.jessieathome.com/amalthea. The hat is a bit slouchy, and is made with a solid base of Cheshire Cat and a small overlay of Unicorn to tie in the lace pattern from the shawl. The PDF of the Amalthea Hat pattern also includes the pattern for the Amalthea Shawl. The PDFs are not available separately, though the shawl pattern is available online for free at the link above.

Xenia (the Greek notion of guest friendship) is a textured, striped shawl-cowl hybrid originally created for the {Among Friends} club. Shaped like a semi-circular shawl, but worked partially in the round, Xenia resembles a shawl wrapped around ones neck, but without any ends. The cowl features a slipped stitch stripe pattern that is simple and fun and is striking in stripes and monochrome alike. Taking the equivalent of a single skein of sock yarn, Xenia works up quickly, uses up yarn leftovers beautifully, and adds a great splash of color and texture to an outfit in any season.

Versus is about opposites. Take a light and a dark or a neon and a neutral, knit an eyeleted, stripey triangle, then join a thick, perpendicular extension that is a negative of the original pattern. Versus begins with a single stitch and is knit in one piece with two skeins of fingering weight yarn all in garter stitch, save for the rows of eyelets occasionally placed throughout. Simple increases and decreases and one strategically placed cast on form contradicting lines, and the perfect unsymmetrical triangular shape to wrap up in. Notes on modification have been included at the end of the pattern, as well as instructions for a three-color version.

2 colors of fingering weight yarn: 420 yds/ 385 m of MC and 300 yds/ 275 m of CC

Turntable is a large wrap that utilizes two neutral shades and simple patterning to create a graphic, modern piece. Knit from the top down in garter stitch, evenly spaced increase rows create a shape that is a cross between a crescent and a half-circle – perfect for comfortably enclosing the body when worn. Stripes run like grooves of a record along the surface of the wrap, and spin up and around when the piece is wrapped around the neck like a scarf. All these elements make for a wrap that is suitable for both men and women to wear in a variety of ways.

The Tree Rings Shawl is a long and narrow crescent shawl worked bottom up in cozy garter stitch with a pretty scalloped border. Worked side to side, the twisted ribbing in the border creates texture and depth and really shows off the colors in a semi- solid colorway of Yowza.
The soothing, simple garter stitch center is picked up from the edge of the border and shaped into a crescent with short rows. In two sizes, this shawl takes one or two skeins of Yowza and is as relaxing to knit as it is to wear.

Starshower is another of the shawl-cowl hybrids that I can’t get enough of lately. It is shaped as a shawl, but mostly worked in the round - so it can be worn as a shawl, but without the ends dangling down. The simple Open Star stitch pattern perfectly complements Anzula’s sparkly fingering weight yarn, Nebula, though the pattern would work just as well with a favorite semi-solid or variegated sock yarn. Sparkle is encouraged, but not required.

If you like Starshower, but want something a bit quicker to knit, check out Adama -- similar in shape, but in worsted weight yarn, the knitting time is practically nothing!

While designing this shrug, I was inspired by the softness of a single-ply yarn worked in textured Seed Stitch and wanted to echo that feeling in gently curving lines in the garment itself. Short rows were the perfect way to achieve this, so I incorporated them into all horizontal edges of this shrug: the high collar, the bottom hem, and the sleeve cuff. The short rows and sloping edges also give the shrug body, and a bit of soft “puff”. The final piece is a pretty winter garment, chic enough for wearing over party dresses, and cozy enough for cuddling up by the fire afterwards.

A heavier-weight version of this cardigan first appeared in Knitscene’s Winter 2012 issue. You can check out the Snowdrift Shrug...

Sidere (Latin for starlight) is a lightweight asymmetrical shawl worked up in the lovely Starbright yarn from Luna Grey Fiber Arts. Knit from the top down beginning with just a few stitches, Sidere’s crescent shape is created with increases placed in every row and its asymmetry is the result of short rows worked in Stockinette stitch between bands of a very simple textured stitch pattern. The stitch pattern gives this airy piece a great deal of surface texture that resembles sparkling stars converging on one end of the shawl, and a picot bind off echoes the same texture at the edge. Sidere is a romantic piece that works equally well as a shawl or as a unique scarf.

Safrani (Greek for saffron) is a cardiganized version of my Indicum Pullover. It features a minimalist embellishment of corrugated ribbing, a simple two-color technique, at the collar and hems. Safrani is knit with two fingering weight yarns at a gauge that makes it lightweight and easy to wear – the contrasting color used in the ribbing requires little yardage and is a great way to use up leftover sock yarn. Safrani is knit flat in one piece from the top down, with a scoop neck shaped with short rows and sleeves ending in very slight puffs. The button bands are added once the cardigan is complete, and buttonholes are created with a simple but interesting technique. Like its pullover counterpart, the lovely Safrani cardigan is perfect for...

It has been brought to my attention that a very similar shawl design was published by Diana Rozenshteyn a few months before Rioja. Palessie features the same lace in a similar shape, as well as a picot BO. I have written with Diana and assured her that these similarities are purely coincidental. Beyond the similarities, Palessie is much wider and a crescent shape, constructed in a different way. If you like Rioja, I encourage you to check out Palessie to see if you prefer its crescent shape and construction.

Texture and lace combine in Rioja, a pretty semi-circular shawlette with a bit of Spanish feel. Garter stitch gives it squish and the two very simple lace patterns...

Poua (Greek for polka dots) is a cute and simple pullover with a flattering shape. The sweater is knit in one piece from the bottom up in an allover Fair Isle pattern that is easy enough for beginners, but still makes a big impact. The body has a bit of ease, especially in the hip area, and includes some waist shaping to follow the curves of the body. While constructing the raglan yoke, bind offs and decreases shape the flattering crew neck, after which the ribbed collar is picked up and knit in 2x2 ribbing. This is a fun-to-knit, easy-to-wear, and modern wardrobe staple for Fall 2014.

Sweater is meant to be worn with 0-2” of ease.

With a simple body and generous collar, Pommier is an opportunity to play with color in a new way. After knitting the Stockinette stitch body from the top down with a subtle racerback, stitches are picked up from around the vest’s opening and a cushy collar is created with two-color Brioche Stitch, a stitch that can be intimidating to some but is much easier than it seems. A tutorial has been provided for those unfamiliar with Brioche Stitch and, with no shaping within the collar, the stitch can be practiced without worrying about stitch counts or additional techniques. The resulting garment is a fun, wearable piece with a collar that adds a stunning detail.

But Phosphoro combines the well-known and well-loved garter stripe duo with an interesting construction that creates the perfect triangular shawl shape and intersecting lines. Because there are no stitch or row-count-specific patterns to worry about, Phosphoro is very easily modified to suit any weight of yarn, and instructions are included in the pattern to make those mods as simple as can be. Grab a set of four colors – neons, neutrals, gradient, anything – and have fun creating and wearing this simple and striking wrap.

Specific yarn requirements:

Pennae (Latin for feathers) is a light and feathery asymmetrical triangular shawl that utilizes the beauty of Anzula’s new silk and wool blend yarn. Pennae starts out with just one stitch and grows from there, with a simple solid section transitioning into lace stripes, after which a lovely plume of lace finishes the shawl. The lace is an uncomplicated pattern based on Barbara Walker’s Porcupine Stitch – a chart and written directions have both been provided for easy execution. Have fun picking colors -- either bold contrast or tone-on-tone, two colors or three -- whatever you choose will make for a pretty multi-seasonal piece.

Nyx is an asymmetric cardigan inspired by the look of a classic motorcycle jacket. A softened version of the leather perfecto, Nyx features a ribbed collar, long sleeves, and a little pocket for tucking away your winter essentials. The look of the sweater can easily be changed by how it is buttoned and how the collar is worn - standing up or folded down. Construction is simple: Nyx is knit from the top down in one piece with a raglan yoke and waist shaping at the sides. The button bands are worked along with the rest of the piece, making for minimal finishing work.

Nola, Latin for bell, is a simple cloche that can be worked in a single skein of either bulky (hot pink) or worsted weight (grey) yarn. In fact, adjusting this pattern is so easy that you could really work it in any weight of yarn that you’d like. Nola features a simple but striking twist formed with one cable row, and a rolled brim that is easily adjusted to change the length of the hat. Spiral decreases finish the top of the crown. Wear this pretty cloche as is, or dress it up with a brooch. And if you’re really feeling fun, turn that twist to the front and wear it as a turban.

Nimbus is a cloudy soft, oversized cowl made up of simple stitches and interesting construction. The cowl is knit sideways, from end to end, in simple knit one, purl one ribbing. Short rows give the bottom tier a bit more length so, when the cowl is worn, it remains snug around the neck, but flares out to cover the chest and shoulders as well – like an infinity scarf wrapped double, but in just one piece. When the knitting is done, the ends are joined and the edges are folded to the inside for a double-thick, cozy piece that you’ll want to keep around you as those storm clouds roll in.

Mielie (South African maize) is simple, classic, and utterly wearable in a number of ways. This vest is knit in Stockinette Stitch from the top down, mostly in one piece, with waist shaping. A ribbed collar is added once the body is complete, and is folded and sewn down for a thicker, warmer, and more dramatic shape. Mielie can be worn all snapped up, barely fastened with the collar falling open, or all open for a more relaxed look – the use of snaps allows you to choose the best placement after trying the finished vest on. Similar in shape to my Starshower cowl, but in worsted weight yarn, Adama is a quick-to-knit shawl-cowl hybrid. Named for the Latin word for diamond (as well as, yes, the captain of Battlestar Galactica), it is shaped as a shawl, but the second half is worked in the round to create the illusion of a semi-circular shawl worn wrapped around the neck without ends to worry about tying. The majority of the cowl is done in a simple diamond lace pattern, with bands of Stockinette and Garter stitch breaking things up.
