Equally bold in style and shade, this bandana cowl is a match for Silk Garden Sock’s emerald, coral and mustard colorway #426. Knit in the round from the beaded lower edge-pausing to work in the short-row shaping that forms the center front point-it features an Aztec-esque bead-and-eyelet motif. Decreases are worked into a back panel of cat’s eye lace and cables. Long fringe finishes the look.

Approx 252 size 6 beads each in matte metallic silver and matte metallic gold are needed.

When the understated peach, olive and umber shades of Silk Garden Lite colorway #2083 meet the plush, feminine texture of this blackberry stitch shawl, the result is positively opulent. A wide cast-on edge forms the rounded lower point, while side increases shape the main body. Edged with seed stitch, the ruffled border is picked up and knit along the lower edges.

Knit in a double-crosshatch mosaic pattern, an infinity scarf seems to shimmer in two kaleidoscopic colorways of Silk Garden Lite. Paired with black, aqua, slate and fuchsia #2087, the salmon, blue, pistachio and cognac shades of #2131 create an ever-changing interplay of light and dark. The scarf is formed from a long garter stitch rectangle that’s seamed together at the ends; for a more traditional look, simply leave the ends unseamed.

A shawl-collar cardigan evokes mandalic look in Mirai colorway #1, a terrestrial blend of brown, blue, green and rust. It begins with a V-stitch back panel, which is worked outward in two halves from a center-back foundation chain. Worked from the back panel’s outer edges- leaving spaces for the armholes- the outer ruffle is crocheted in the round, alternating lacy long chains and V-stitch patterns.

Pacific in deep turquoise Silk Garden Lite Solo colorway #4, a flowing cardigan is constructed block by block of shell-and-mesh squares. Each is crocheted from the center out and joined as it’s worked, shaping the single rectangular piece that forms the back and fronts. Worked in the same way, the sleeves are sewn into the armholes before a picot border is worked along the outer edges.

Knit in garter stitch, a mitered blanket plays all the angles, working three Shinryoku colorways-ultramarine #6, ambered coral #3 and evergreen #5-into every block. Constructed from the same sequence of interlocking panels, the blocks are formed from cast-on and picked-up rows and shaped with double decreases. An I-cord border is knit along the outer edges.

Worked bargello-style from three separate rolls, a generous infinity scarf isolates the striking red, indigo, and green color families of colorway #1019, creating a vivid interplay when the scarf is worn doubled. The trio of panels is worked in the same texture pattern-garter blocks on a stockinette background-from one provisional cast-on. Garter stitch trims the outer edges. A Faeroese-style shawl acquires plenty of lightness and drape at a bulky gauge. Flanked by panels of garter stitch, a column of zigzag lace runs down the center back and flows into the wide lace border. The varying patterns manipulate the stripes of cream, burgundy, blue and turquoise in colorway #1009, which narrow as the shawl expands with eyelet increases from the garter tab. Garter stitch borders the lower edge.

Lacy bands in dazzling yellow, lime and fuchsia make the essential blanket poncho ready for warmer climes. The front and back are knit side to side in Taiyo colorway #75, alternating panels of eyelet mesh, stockinette and zig zag lace that are divided by purl ridges. Bound-off and cast-on sections create the mirrored deep V-neckline. The shoulders and sides are seamed to form deep armholes.

As mutable as an evening sky, the sunset shades of pink, violet, orange and gray in colorway #1011 create shifting degrees of contrast throughout entrelac-knit stockinette diamonds. The bag is woked in a single long rectangle that’s folded and seamed at the sides, leaving a top flap. The shoulder strap is worked in the round for double thickness. This convertible cardigan can be worn two ways-in one direction, as a chic cocoon cardi; in the other as a cropped shrug with a shawl collar. The colorway, Mirai #4, is an equally innovative mix of silver, jade, mustard and plum. Worked in reversible pattern of three-stitch eyelet cables, it’s constructed from two sideways-knit rectangles. After the parts have been seamed, wide garter stitch cuffs are knit from either end of the shorter, wider piece.

I knit these socks for not one, but two reasons: one, that I wanted to make sure that one skein of Schaefer Yarn’s Heather would yield a pair of men’s socks; and two, that I hadn’t ever knit my man some socks! The zig-zagging knit-and-purl pattern is both in chart and written format. The sock is knit “traditionally” from the top down with a reinforced heel. These take a bit of time to knit, but I promise the recipient will be truly grateful!

Vindur means wind in Icelandic, which reflects the asymmetrical hemline and the weather in Iceland perfectly!

Vindur was inspired by a trifecta of experiences!

  • First off a trip to Iceland meant I needed a new warm sweater.
  • Then at a boring business conference at Cornell I saw the most amazing Norma Kamali sweater from the 1980s…
  • Finally I wanted to play with the construction of the Novus sweaters, but in a pullover format!

Vindur is a seamless asymmetrical sweater constructed in a simple but unusual way. First the right arm is worked from the cuff to the underarm and a short row sleeve cap is worked. Then stitches are provisionally cast on for the front and back. Then the shoulder is worked and the stitches are split for neckline shaping. The front and back are worked at the same time and rejoined to work the left shoulder. Then the front and back stitches are put on holders, and a short row sleeve cap is worked. Next, the left sleeve is worked to the wrist. Finally, the sweater is folded in half, and these two halves are joined together by a garter stitch side seam that is worked perpendicularly to them. These start at the hem and end at the cuff of the sleeve joining the front and the back of the...

Triplex is all about the number three! It starts with three friends: a designer, a yarnie, and a button maker who decided to join forces and create a kit!

It comes in three different colors, can be worn in three different ways and plays with three knitting techniques!

If you fold Triplex lengthwise and button it you’ve got a shrug, if you wear it centered at the back and bring the ends over your shoulder and button it you have a “ruana” and if you just wrap it around your body you have a shawl!

You’ll be expanding your knitting skills by working with elongated stitches, ruching and attached i-cord!

Three times the fun, that’s what Triplex is!

Texo Cuff was designed for the very first Lola’s Choice Kit! Lola was in the mood to play with neutral colors and beaded I-Cord, but in a whole new way!

Five strands of Beaded I-Cord are worked off a garter stitch base and then twisted around to make a chunky, wearable summer bracelet!

Listado Cowl was one of the first cowls I designed. I always wanted it to be longer but to do that I knew I had to change the stitch pattern to be reversible. So this version was born!

I used a brand new yummy gradient alpaca/merino sport weight yarn from Cloudborn Fibers… the color shifts happen without you doing a thing (besides knitting). This pattern can be made with a variety of yarns and it is easily adjustable based on yardage available.

This pattern/yarn combo is definitely a hit as when I bound it off my hubby “stole” it before I even had time to block it and revamp the pattern! Luckily I got it back...

The Novus Jacket was inspired by the construction of the sweaters in the Novus Collection. I wanted a winter weight jacket that would keep me WARM and that I could wear open or closed! The jacket is worked from the sleeve towards the center in two halves and then joined together by back and sleeve panels. It is easy to adjust! Add length to the jacket when you cast on for the body and add width by working more rows at the collar.

Medio Cowl is another crazily constructed cowl (inspired by Brioche Bandido)… first two “halves” are knit in the round with a Fibonacci inspired striping sequence. Then those two cylinders are joined together with a garter stitch center strip that eats up stitches as it is worked perpendicularly between them.

Fino Necklace was the final design for my Patternworks Knit Jewelry Kit Club! It has been released as an individual pattern!

Fino is constructed with one long I-cord that is banded together by individually made “beads”… These “bead wraps” are made by placing beads with a crochet hook or Super Floss onto elongated stitches. There are endless possibilities for this technique . You can make one, two, five or twenty beads to wrap your I-cord with… that is totally up to you!

Wait until you see how fun Fino is to make… especially if you invest in an I-cord maker.

Crucero Shawl was designed for my Nautical Knitting Cruise students. The design was revealed on board, and then classes were held to teach the techniques used!

Crucero starts from the center out in the round and the center back of the shawl is created. Then the stitches are divided… the left and right “wings” are worked separately flat, with beads integrated into the pattern at the end of each wing. Then a crochet beaded border is worked along the bottom edge tying it all together.

There is lots to learn in this shawl… it was my first time doing a crochet beaded border, so I have a feeling that will be something new for many...

Crucero Banda is a rectungular version of the Crucero Shawl. It starts at the center with a vertical strip. Stitches are then picked up and each side of this strip out worked outwards with beads integrated into the pattern at the end of each side. Then a crochet beaded border is worked along the bottom edge tying it all together. The stitches are a combination of a simple fir cone lace stitch and an insanely fun migrating drop stitch pattern.

Listado Cowl is sized two ways, a little neck warmer, and an elegant whole head covering; either way this is a fast and simple ribbed lace cowl worked entirely in the round! Once you get the hang of the 4-round stitch repeat it is smooth sailing. The small cowl takes around 130 yards, and the large one around 260 yards. This cowl is a serious stash buster for your finger weight leftovers!

Cheerio is a short row shaped necklace that incorporates three kinds of beads, Czech Glass Donuts (aka Cheerios), size 8 seed beads, and matte triangular seed beads. I found the cheerios when I was in Canada last spring and played with them all summer long to find the perfect way to incorporate them into a necklace…. the teens that work with me decided that this design is decidedly tribal, and we love it!

August’s Adorn design, Butin Earring, was designed to complement June’s pattern Butin Collar. The earrings are based on FOUR stitches of knitting, with beads slipped up into a delicate swag.

It takes me about an hour to make a pair and they are addictive to make…. just sayin’. There is even a video link provided in the pattern for attaching the earring finding!!!!

With only 10 yards of yarn, 3 different colors beads and an hour of your time you can make this cuff!

Beaded Waves Cuff plays with elongating stitches on one row, and then placing beads on them on the next row. In the pattern I have suggested 2 possible layouts for the bead colors, one with 2 colors and one with 3 colors. There is even a blank diagram for you to design your own bead pattern once you get the hang of the pattern!

Inspired by the Artichoke French Sweater, Artichoke French Mittens are the perfect snug hand warmer.

Knit in a dense Aran weight yarn (I love Jill Draper’s Empire) at a tight gauge wind will be hard pressed to get through the stitches and chill your fingers. The snug fit makes it easy to drive, open the mailbox, and walk the dog.

If you want them loose enough to wear liners under for extra warmth then just knit a size up!

I talk a bit about my design process for these mittens on my blog, and I made you a video tutorial for the stitch!

Ever buy a gradient yarn or a mini-skein pack and not know what to do with it? Did you find a great skein of variegated sock yarn but you’re not quite sure if it will make a good shawl? If you’re anything like me, then you definitely have.

Inspired by a great mini-skein pack that I just couldn’t resist, Pomeroy Shawl is a simple, garter stitch, asymmetrical shawl. The lower edge has a crochet chain bind off, just for something a little fancy. Even though the pattern calls for 500-550 yards of fingering weight yarn, it’s easy to adjust the pattern for any yardage, and you don’t have to use a mini-skein pack. Just knit!

Gearhead is the perfect go-to sweater for those hot summer nights spent at the beach! We used Eco Butterfly in Cotton to lighten up this cozy boyfriend sweater!

Nothing beats a cozy fall sweater except one that is light as well as warm. This unisex button-neck pullover in ten sizes (XS/S/M/L and 1X to 6X) is just that—substantial enough to be worn from September through March, but oh so light and breathable, knit in a lofty DK/light worsted weight yarn. Worked in one piece from hem to neck, with cable detailing along the seamlines, this project is a treat to knit and to wear.

Substituting yarn and/or needles may result in an overall variation in size and drape.

In the absence of sleeves, long fingerless gloves make an elegant statement at a formal event. When knit up in a lightweight fabric from non-wool yarn, this version in two sizes (S/L) will carry the day, allowing you to get away with a slip of a dress when temperatures soar. And they’ll continue to add a fun touch when you change into shorts or jeans later on. Knit in a silk/linen blend with stripes worked right into the fabric, they look smashing paired with a wide scarf in the same fabric to complete the outfit. Add beads if desired for a little extra bling.
Substituting yarn and/or needles may result in an overall variation in size and elasticity.

This airy semicircle in two sizes (petite/tall), is begun on a provisional cast on and worked from center back neck to hem in a series of patterns that progresses from solid to more open and lacy. Trellis, vine, and leaf motifs tell the story of the vineyard as harvest time nears, forming a fabric that invites the autumn light to filter through. Complex to the eye, the lace is actually quite simple and entertaining to work. The final result is a stunning composition that offers a warm and beautiful layer on cool fall days.
