Just over a year ago, we decided that it might be fun to offer a new sock project each month from our Chief Design Officer, Amy. Here is an exploration of our entire sock “Space Series”.
All of the individual patterns are listed below, but if you'd like all twelve patterns—for less than the price of four—check out the Sock of the Month: Space Series eBook.
Most socks are worked in the round on double-pointed needles or with two circulars, so they're considered to be at least an Intermediate skill level. The easiest pattern in the series is the "Launch Pad Socks" (below) ... a perfect place to start your intergalactic journey!
Also, the response to our Space Series was so positive we have started a new set of twelve sock patterns featuring America's National Parks!
Launch Pad Socks
This is a great basic top-down sock pattern with the added benefit of Amy's engineering-oriented construction … a real workhorse pattern for her or him.
Worked in Knit One Crochet Too Crock O Dye, women's sizes use one skein, and guys' sizes will use two.
Red Planet Socks
A little more adventurous, these socks combine ribs and cables of two different sizes to take a basic top-down sock to the next level.
Women's sizes small and large each take a single skein of HiKoo American B.R.A.N.D.
Rogue Star Socks
Worked from the cuff down, these handsome socks combine mirrored cable panels on both front and back with sections of heavy texture down either side.
Women's medium and large sizes each take one skein of Rowan Fine Art.
Cosmic DNA Socks
Knit mirrored cables and chevron patterns from cuff to toe in this adventurous sock pattern that also features an Eye of Partridge Heel.
There are four different sizes offered in this pattern, and each uses a single skein of Mountain Colors Twizzlefoot.
Crystal Galaxy Socks
These socks sport an elaborate rib/cable texture and are knit from the top down. Take your time, and you'll do great. Both written and charted instructions are provided.
Each of the two sizes offered use one skein of Dream in Color Everlasting Socks HEAVY.
Everlasting Sock Heavy is 30% off while supplies last!
Zero Gravity Socks
Worked from the toe up, these socks feature inverted staghorn cables, eyelets, and nice, stretchy ribbing.
Women's small and medium sizes each use two skeins of Claudia Hand Painted Yarns Addiction (Fingering). The women's large size uses three.
Strange Orbit Socks
This toe-up knee sock sports nested cable designs up the front and sides with a beautifully branched rib pattern in the calf shaping. Sizing for feet and legs are separate to assist in a good fit.
While the smallest foot and calf sizes use a single skein, all others will use two hanks of Frabjous Fibers' Wonderland Cheshire Cat.
Hunter's Moon Socks
These nice, dense boot socks are ribbed through the foot for a snug fit as well as having extra-dense toes and cuffs. They're also worked from the toe-up if you need to check sizing along the way.
From extra-small to large sizes, these socks require one skein of Classic Elite Mohawk Wool and a skein each of the two contrasting shades of Rowan Pure Wool Superwash DK.
Terra Firma Socks
Deceptively simple, the two broad cables up the front of these toe-up socks aren't actually cables at all but an ingenious increase/decrease pattern. The single central real cable is a simple 2 × 2 twist.
Saturn Landing Socks
Mock cables, yarn overs, and passed-over stitches embellish these toe-up socks.
Each of the three sizes use just one skein of Dream in Color Smooshy.
Celestial Diamond Socks
The simple trellis in purls covering the tops of these toe-up socks really is quite lovely, but the star … the real showstopper here … is the sole and gusset shaping.
Each of the three sizes requires 1 hank of Madelinetosh Tosh Sock.
An intertwined traveling cable pattern from cuff to toe is the focus in this striking top-down sock pattern.
Each of the three sizes uses one skein of Zen Yarn Garden Serenity 20.
