Terra Firma Socks, Space Series Sock of the Month Overview header
Plant Your Feet in Terra Firma Socks
Knit in HiKoo SueƱo and SueƱo Tonal
If you like cables, you're going to love knitting the striking toe-up “Terra Firma Socks.” Two broad mirrored faux cables run up the top/front bracketing a tiny 2 × 2 cable. Knit in the lustrous new SueƱo yarn from HiKoo, these beautiful socks are a fantastic addition to any wardrobe … and they're fun to knit.
SueƱo is typically knit at sport-to-worsted gauge, but by using smaller gauge needles, SueƱo yields a deliciously squishy sock fabric that you'll love to wear.

As dramatic as these socks look, they're actually quite an approachable project. The two broad cables aren't actually cables at all, but an ingenious increase/decrease pattern, and the single central real cable is a simple 2 × 2 twist.
At the same time there's also some interesting construction going on underneath. You get the full traditional gusset worked from the toe-up, a straight-forward turned heel, and the simple reinforcing slip-rib heel back. Up the back of the leg, Amy's been wise enough to offer a forgiving (and infinitely wearable) 2 × 2 rib.
