Ambiguous Cowl
by Michelle Hunter
Since this is a mystery knit along, we don't have photos or a lot
of details on the project other than it's a reversible stranded colorwork cowl.
If you've not done stranded colorwork (sometimes referred to as Fair Isle knitting*),
this is an ideal project on which to
learn since Michelle offers great tutorials via her blog and video tutorials.
* Fair Isle knitting specifically refers to techniques and patterns developed in the
Shetland Islands—including the tiny island of Fair Isle—to the north
of Scotland. Stranded colorwork is a more general term for such techniques developed
around the world.
The pattern will be offered in two sizes: small and large.
The cowl will be 8" tall and approximately 22" (40") around, after blocking.
For those of you who are not familiar with Michelle's mystery knit alongs, it is a
mystery knit along. The pattern is released in four weekly installments,
so each Thursday the next part of the pattern is revealed. Thus the mystery!
This knit along (or KAL)
started on Thursday, January 7th, but you are not too late to get in on the fun!
The pattern and videos will be available at
KnitPurlHunter.com/KAL
where you can post questions as well. You can also connect via the
Knit Purl Hunter Ravelry group.
Questions are typically answered daily. The video
lessons along with the forums let knitters of all skill levels
participate and get whatever help they need.
It's like having a knitting tutor 24/7!
Materials
Yarn
The yarn Michelle used is HiKoo's new
SueƱo.
This soft and luxurious yarn is a blend of superwash merino and bamboo viscose
(or rayon made from highly renewable bamboo). It results in a gorgeous, drapey
fabric with wonderfully soft hand-feel and a slight luster that makes even casual
garments and simple accessories look rich and luxurious.
It's the same yarn as
SueƱo,
but it's dyed very differently. With the highlights and shadows of
kettle-dyed yarns,
SueƱo Tonal
brings a bit of color variation to the table.
