Add the perfect touch to your outfit with this soft, lacy beanie. Knitted from 1 skein of deliciously rich dark brown Merino, it’s a shade that chocoholics will love. There are plenty of other colours to choose from in the range, though from bold violet to zingy lime, so why not make a hat for each day of the week?

Pattern requires set of 3.25mm DPNs, stitch marker.

Colour used: Chocolate Doesn’t Come Any Darker

Inspired by Victorian caps, the lace droplet pattern circles around the Hat, creating an interesting concentric effect, with the shaping cleverly incorporated into the pattern.

Pattern is worked from the bottom up and includes charts for both the stitch pattern and the crown shaping.

Basel is a beanie with an interesting sweeping, spiral like texture. The lines of stitches adorning this Hat come out from the brim, up into the body, and gently merge into the crown, keeping the spiral pattern continuous throughout the Hat.

Fabales grew from my desire to knit a Hat that would showcase a special skein of yarn but also have just enough detail to catch the eye. The motifs grow organically from a twisted rib into a background of reverse stocking stitch. This is a quick knit, perfect for a long train journey or languid summer nights. Choose that special skein with care.

Forestry is a lightweight beanie, ideal for spring and summer or warmer climes.

The lace pattern grows out from the brim and gently works it’s way towards the crown, where the shaping is elegantly worked into the lace pattern. The brim is reminiscent of the
base of trees, the trunks; the the body lace pattern reflects the branches and the crown detail is like the tips of the trees, delicate and whimsical.

The yarn adds to the delicate nature of this Hat – the semi-slid colourway allows the lace to stand forward, and the fibre content enhances the shape and texture.

With one skein you can knit 2 or 3 of these Hats!

A delicate yarn calls for a delicate shape and this turban works both to glamorous effect. Worked flat, this piece is all in the finishing with fascinating folds and turns that turn simple garter stitch into a sculptural masterpiece.

Note - the construction of this Hat is tricky, I know, and the instructions for the construction are provided in diagrammatical form. All of the projects with photos have been finished correctly, and there are many notes there that may be of help. The Hat has also been discussed in my group, and that can be found here:

Labyrinth is no ordinary striped beanie; the stripes are created with short rows, resulting in off centre stripes which are based on nested circles. The pattern itself is deceptively simple - the only tricky part is the short rows, and as they’re worked in the round and are stacked, you’d want to use the method that gives the most invisible results for you.

To ensure a comfortable fit, you’ll also want plenty of negative ease. If you find your gauge over the ribbing and garter stitch different, I’d suggest going down a needle size for the body, so that the garter stretches out nicely. And rather then wet blocking, why not try steam blocking over a ball or bowl.

Please note that this pattern uses 2 different yarn weights (sports & DK) to achieve a fuller range of sizes. Please refer to pattern information below.

Ledger is a stepped beanie, incorporating both 2x2 and 1x1 ribbing. Starting with a unique 2x2 ribbed cast on (tutorial available to download from here) this beanie is not only fully reversible, but also covers a wide range of sizes from 6mths through to large adult.

Pattern is worked in the round, bottom up, and is provided in written format.

The grey sample shown was knit in KnitPicks Gloss DK, which knitted up to a perfect worsted gauge. Any worsted yarn would work for this pattern, and the smaller sizes make especially good stash busters.
