This shawlette can be knit from one 100-gram skein of sock yarn and when blocked measures approximately 54” across the top (wingspan) and 25” down the center back.

This pattern is perfect for a beginner knitter who wants to knit lace. The pattern is written in great detail and spells out everything you need to know. The lace is charted in 4 relatively simple charts that are easy to follow.

It is knit from fingering rather than laceweight yarn, which is much easier for a lace newbie to execute. The stitches used are knit and purl, and a few simple lace techniques -- yarnover, knit 2 together, and ssk, and sl1 k2tog, psso (which are explained in the pattern).

Use any smooth worsted weight wool or wool blend that you can knit to a gauge of 4st/inch. You will need a circular needle in the size to attain gauge that is 24” long for the collar, and a longer needle to transfer to as you increase stitches. I knit the sample using a 40” needle.

This poncho is knit from the top down, starting with a tubular cast-on for the deep ribbed turtleneck.

Poncho measures 26” from the bottom of the turtleneck to the hem, 109” around the bottom edge. To alter the length of the poncho, you will need to add/subtract approximately 200 yards for each 3” in length added/removed.

The pattern is written out, with both a chart and written instructions for the cable that runs down the front and back of the...

Originally designed for the attendees of The Loopy Ewe Spring Fling 2013, this sideways garter-stitch shawl pattern is now available for everyone.

As knit, the shawl measures 60” along top edge and 27” down center back. It is not blocked, but you can steam the lace edging if you feel the need to open it up a bit.

The shawl is a semi-circle shape and is knit sideways: you start with a few stitches at one side and work the edging as you knit. In the center section short rows are used to make the shawl sit nicely on your shoulders.

The simple lace edging is both charted and written...

This cowl is worked as a long tube: it starts with a provisional cast-on and is worked in the round in two-color stranded stockinette, then the live stitches at the end are grafted to the live stitches released from the provisional cast-on.

The approximate measurements are 80” around and 10” deep. While exact gauge is not crucial for a non-fitted garment, you want to get close to the stated gauge for the desired effect. The gauge listed is after blocking.

You can use any fingering weight smooth wool or wool blend: 900 yards of each color. I used Elsa Wool Company Woolen-Spun Fingering Weight Cormo: 2 skeins cream (background color) and 2 skeins...

Easy-to-knit garter-stitch scarf with ruffles on both sides. While the sample was knit with fingering weight wool, you could use any weight up to a light DK weight. (Anything heavier will give you very stiff ruffles!)

Knit as written and lightly steam blocked, this garter stitch scarf measures 8” across and 70” long, but you can make it any width and length you like. The pattern explains how to modify the size. You can knit the scarf to use up your entire skein of yarn -- it’s easy to knit until you run out. The scarf pictured was knit with one 130-gram ball of Kauni...

This shawl is worked in the round, using the “pi” construction created by the great Elizabeth Zimmermann. Each section is knit from a different chart, and that chart is repeated a number of times around. Each line of the chart is also written out, and those written out instructions are for one “repeat” of each chart. For each section of the shawl the pattern tells you how many times (or repeats) you will knit each line on each round of the chart, and also for how many rounds you will knit each chart. Most of the charts are repeated more than one time so be sure to pay attention to the...

This is the perfect project to use up those many small odds and ends of sock yarn you have collected over the years. Or a perfect excuse for buying multiple mini-skeins of fingering weight yarn!

This simple shawl works up quickly in DK weight yarn, but you could use any weight wool to knit it. Choose a needle size that gives you a nice drape: a size or two larger than recommended for the yarn. You can also vary the patterns, working more or fewer rows of the garter and lace patterns.

You can knit this shawl using a gradient, a solid color, a variegated colorway, or work it in stripes of two or more colors.

It’s easy to work until you have used up all your yarn: just keep working until you are almost out of yarn, making sure you have enough remaining to work the stretchy cast-off, which uses enough yarn for 2 rows of regular knitting.

Seven patterns are included in this download: curlicue earrings, i-cord eyeglasses lanyard, a mini-sock, a nose-up catnip mouse with an i-cord tail, an i-cord hair scrunchie, a wee amulet bag, and a lace bookmark.

Note that you will need some findings for a few of the projects: earwires for the earrings, lanyard tips for the eyeglass lanyard, and a bead for the wee amulet bag -- these may be purchased at hobby or bead stores. I purchased all mine at firemountaingems.com

For the hair scrunchie you need a covered elastic band (available in drugstores), and for the mouse you need stuffing (yarn or fiberfill) and catnip, if desired.

This wrap is knit in garter stitch and the ruffles are created using short rows. The sample was knit using fingering weight yarn, but you can use other weights as well.

Gauge is not important -- you want a fabric that is nicely firm and not too loose.

The sample knit for the pattern has the following dimensions:
Length: 68” along top edge, lightly steam blocked
Depth: 11.5” at center back, lightly steam blocked

The pattern includes:

Modifications for knitting this design by weight of your skein so you can use the entire skein of yarn.

Modifications for making this design a triangular...

Sanquhar is a town in Scotland, noted for its distinctive two-color knitting. I have knitted Sanquhar socks and gloves in the past, and thought a cowl would be a perfect “sampler” project to showcase many different motifs. I charted most of these motifs from looking at old photographs of Sanquhar knitting, and may have made a minor change to traditional motifs here or there. All of the “main” patterns are based on 11 by 11 stitch squares. I alternate “all-over” background patterns in between each main pattern motif.

This project is designed as a cowl, starting with a provisional cast-on and knit in the round so you can graft the beginning stitches to the end stitches to make a perfect tube. You could also make a scarf, binding off each end separately.

The unblocked shawl measures 40” across the top and 20” down the center back. Blocked it measures 56” across and 25” down the center back. These measurements are approximate because they depend on how severely you block your piece.

This pattern is good for a beginner knitter who wants to knit lace. The pattern is written in great detail and spells out everything you need to know. The lace is charted in 4 relatively simple charts that are easy to follow.

It is knit from fingering rather than laceweight yarn, which is much easier for a lace newbie to execute. The stitches used are knit and purl, and a few simple lace...

This sideways garter stitch wrap has short-row shaping and a lace edging that is worked as you knit the body. Short rows in the body give a gentle curve at the neck so the shawlette stays put when you wear it.

Sheldon is knit with fingering weight yarn and Leonard is knit with sportweight yarn. Both shawlettes measure approximately 50” along top edge, unblocked and unstretched (the piece stretches out well beyond 60”) and 11.5” deep at the center back

Sheldon uses 400 yards of fingering weight yarn and a U.S. size 3 needle is suggested for a gauge of 5.25 - 5.5 sts/inch.

Leonard uses 350 yards of sportweight yarn and a U.S. size 5 needle is suggested for a gauge...

The cowl is created by casting on the circumference of the cowl provisionally, knitting one side, working a turning round, then working the other side. Once completed you will remove the provisional cast-on and place the beginning stitches on a circular needle. Folding the piece in half at the fold line, you will either graft the beginning stitches to the end stitches or work a three-needle bind-off.

There are many many color combinations you could use. I think it would be lovely in a pink variegated with a brown solid. Or how about a gradient set with black? Or black and white? The possibilities are almost endless. The inside is worked in a simpler pattern than the outside.

The pattern contains instructions (both charted and written) for both hats.

Do not over-think the cast-on! Once you remove the waste yarn you will just continue working the ribbing -- there are no stitches that need to be picked up as a result of removing the cast-on.

August 15, 2011 -- I have added a third lace variation to the pattern, so the pattern now includes three different lace patterns. People who have already bought the pattern have been emailed a notification with instructions for re-downloading the updated pattern.

October 10, 2011 -- I have added a fourth lace variation to the pattern, so the pattern now includes four different lace patterns. For this variation I used a...

The shawlette pictured was made with 1 skein of Madelintosh Pashmina, but you could use pretty much any yarn in any weight, as you work this shawl sideways. Instructions for working the shawl this way, as well as exact directions for the shawl pictured, are included.

This is a short-row scarf or shawlette that starts with knitting an edging. You then pick up stitches on the long straight edge of your edging and work up from the bottom. Short rows create a gentle curve in the pieces.

The edging pattern is both charted and written out.

This shoulder shawl has a fun shape – it consists of 5 wedge-shaped sections. On each even-numbered round, you are increasing 10 stitches, so your work widens dramatically as you knit. If you wish, you can experiment – knit fewer or more wedges to make a shawlette that is narrower or wider. You will, of course, have to adjust the amount of yarn you are using should you alter the pattern.

The unblocked shawl measures 14” down the long edge of each triangle. Blocked it measures 23” down the long edge of each triangle. These measurements are approximate because they...
