Whether picking apples in the orchard or filling your home with the aroma of freshly baked pie, Apple Tart is the cowl you’ll be picking for all your fall harvest fun. Sweet apple pie lattice and its scalloped crust inspired the lace and edge work on this organic cotton design. With yarn coming from my LYS named Yummi Yarns, I just had to design a tantalizingly tasty cowl.

Tantalize your taste buds and finger tips! Travel to Toronto’s Distillery District to discover the inspiration behind Bicerin shawl. Rich chocolate wafts down the cobblestoned pedestrian thorough fare past the Soulpepper theatre company, artist studios, galleries, restaurants, and shops. Soma Chocolate Maker’s enticing aromas invite you to sit, sip, and knit while they transform the rich decadence of the cocoa bean into edibles and drinks alike. After much experimentation, I recreated the delectable drink while knitting with cocoa and cream colored yarn. When worn over a black shirt you too can enjoy the warmth of a Bicerin both in a cup and wrapped around your shoulders.
This quick knit makes a great last minute Father’s Day present!

2014 Pattern Update: Black Willow is back!! The completely revamped tech edited pattern includes modeled pictures fully written row by row directions and full charts.
This is a pattern I designed based on the black willow tree. I was inspired by a beautiful black willow tree while undergoing treatment this Fall. My eye was drawn to the richness of the bark and the variegation of depth. I added glass beads for an accent and a porcelain leaf button to carry theme. It is knit in Estelle’s organic 100% cotton yarn. The pattern includes written directions for both the cowl and full length scarf. The beading is optional.
Finished Measurements: Cowl – 26”/ 66cm long by 6”/ 15cm wide. Scarf – 60-78”/ 152.5-198cm long by 6”/ 15cm wide.
This pattern uses 5 skeins of Kollage Milky Whey milk/soy yarn on a US 5 needle. The finished measurements are 64” x 10”. It both starts and ends with 1 sts, so there are several rows of increases and decreases at the beginning and end. However the pattern worked over the majority of the shawl is only 9 rows. I would put the pattern at a beginner + or intermediate.
Just in time for Spring. Do you find yourself cold in the chilly spring mornings or evenings? Wrap up in this cheery design. The soft milk and soy yarn will keep you comfortable, while the bright green will announce Spring to all you meet. The pattern details include...

Whether dressing to impress your Marc Antony or luxuriating by the banks of a river, Cleopatra Scarf weaves the romance of ancient Egypt into a symbolic graphical scarf. The great pyramids at Giza, with their varying heights, are emblematic in the triangular lace. Surf down the curving tributaries of the Nile on the ebbs and flows of the cables. The tassels with the blunt ends fashion the hair style indicative of the time, while the ovular shape represents the small ovals hanging from Cleopatra’s opulent court.

Note: the yarns have been discontinued. Substitute your favorite DK weight yarn with a gauge of 5.25-5.5 sts/ inch and 8-8.5 rows/ inch on US 6/ 4mm. I originally used two different yarns for the added dimension of different texture to the touch, but using all the same yarn or even three different yarns is fine for this pattern as long as the gauges are close.

My sister inspired me to design a beginner pattern. She has crocheted for years and was leery at trying her hand at knitting, so I decided to tempt her beyond her doubts. I created a simple pattern that required only knit, purl, and a button opening, in her favorite color, blue. To ensure her success I included written directions as well as a chart. Furthermore, I sent this pattern off to be tech edited to make certain it would be as universally understood as possible.
As to the specifics behind the “Off the Cuff” design, I find cuffs on garments rather interesting as they intentional expose of the wrong side of a work. The seed stitch alters to emulate the structure of a cuff. The...
