This simple hat and handwarmer set is perfect for practicing your stranded colourwork. The pattern is comprised entirely of peeries, which are small colourwork repeats of 1-7 rounds. To ensure the foreground pattern ‘pops’ against the background, be sure to consistently hold the contrast colour in your left hand, or with the strand coming up from under the main colour.

Both the hat and handwarmers are worked in the round and knit up quickly in worsted weight yarn. The colour combinations are endless! Try a self-striping yarn or gradient yarn as the contrast colour for an easy, striking variation. The handwarmers incorporate an afterthought thumb so that the stranded patterning isn’t interrupted. Hat is shown in size M and handwarmers in size S.

The only word for this scarf is luscious! Soft, silky, luxurious laceweight cashmere gives an ethereal halo to this light and cozy fabric. If cashmere isn’t in your budget, find the softest merino or alpaca laceweight you can!

Chic oversized cables alternate sides to produce a reversible fabric and provide maximum punch for minimal effort! The fabric scrunches and drapes in fantastic ways. It’s the scarf you’ll keep reaching for over and over.

AWAIT is a simple side-to-side shrug, perfect for layering over tees and dresses. The body is worked as a basic rectangle with stretchy ribbed cuffs and easy to memorize Rick-Rack Lace. The ends of the rectangle are seamed, forming the sleeves, then the ribbed edging is picked up and worked in the round.
Sizing is very flexible for this project and can be adjusted on the needles. For the best fit, measure your bicep circumference to determine what sleeve size to cast on, rounding up if you’re between sizes. The length of the shrug across the back is easily changed if you need a smaller or wider shrug.

A pretty cowl for all seasons. The cable and lace patterns alternate around the loop, creating a lovely mix of textures. The knitting is easy, with every other round worked even in knit and purl. Perfect for beginners to lace and cables.
The single loop version is shown in my handspun blue faced leicester wool dyed by Into the Whirled (colourway: Kimura). I split the top lengthwise into two pieces, then spun each from end to end. Then I chain-plied to preserve the long stripes. Knitting with handspun is special indeed, so I carried on until I was nearly out of yarn before binding off.
The generously sized double loop is shown in 100% silk from Lantern Moon, which has a great silky crunch and beautiful drape. It’s so smooth and easy to wear, even in hot weather.

CRESTLINE is a pretty cardigan with short sleeves, twisted ribbing, and ribbon lace. I designed this sweater to wear on vacation in Vancouver, BC, and it was perfect over dresses and tees every day! The smooth hand- dyed yarn is worked at a slightly open gauge, and is lightweight but still warm and comfortable. Great for ocean breezes and office air-conditioning.

A very slight error, Feb 19/2010 - the 16-inch circular needle length metric equivalent should say 40 cm, not 30.

This lightweight, easy to knit hat is an accessory you need in lots of colours! Worked in fingering weight yarn, it is perfect for those skeins of sock yarn or laceweight that are just too beautiful to hide. A bit of slouch makes for a flattering fit.

Work this up in a single yarn, or mix it up with one for the ribbing and a complementary yarn for the rest of the hat - I used Koigu KPPPM for the ribbing and a doubled laceweight yarn for the rest.

LINGER is a top-down triangular shawl with fun asymmetry. Beginning with a circular cast on, one half of the shawl is worked entirely in Rick-Rack Lace, while the other half is stockinette, punctuated by a narrow lace column. The border is worked side to side and knit onto the edge of the shawl, so there’s no long edge to cast off! Both charted and written directions are provided.

LLANOS is a lightweight wrap cardigan that’s perfect for throwing over dresses in the summer or long sleeved tees in the winter for a not-too-hot layer. Worked from the top down with an easy lacy edging, I-cord ties, and options for elbow-length or full length sleeves. Darted waist shaping is worked on the back only. A fingering weight wool-bamboo blend from Anzula has great drape and a smooth, comfortable hand.

Worked as a seamless raglan from the top down, with body knit flat and sleeves worked in the round. The wrap shaping makes for a forgiving fit. For the best size, measure a sweater you like the fit of, and make the size closest to it. Shown in size 43” / 108cm with about...

A perfect layer for those extra-cold days or as a cozy jacket, this top down sweatercoat is sure to find a perfect spot in your wardrobe! Two strands of worsted weight yarn are held together for a cozy marled look and warm fabric.

Shaped through the waist for a fitted look, and knit in one piece from the neck down with shaped buttonbands for a fun twist - they incorporate short rows so that they’re wider towards the bottom of the sweater. You can customize the length of the sleeves and body easily and it’ll still knit up quickly and easily.

Moraine is a super cozy wrap cardigan with an intricately cabled back and simple stockinette fronts. The long ribbed sleeves keep the shape from being overwhelming, but stretch wonderfully over your tee or blouse. The extra-long shawl collar can be worn scrunched up at the back of your neck for extra warmth and is finished with a tidy I-cord bind off.

The fronts and back are worked flat, then sewn together before working the shawl collar. The set-in sleeves are worked in the round to the underarm, then flat for the sleeve cap. The waist ties are worked separately and sewn to the side seams, so there’s nothing in the way of all those pretty back cables.

Meant to be worn with 2-4” / 5-10cm ease at the bust for a casual fit. For the best fit, measure a sweater you like the fit of, and make the size closest to it....

This cozy oversized cowl is quick to knit up in an unusual, fun stitch pattern that’s reversible, too! Knit seamlessly in the round, this is the perfect project to show off handpainted, handspun and extra-special yarns. I love the sunny yellow colour of this Malabrigo merino, and it’s super soft - perfect for wrapping around your neck on those chilly days.

The Double Garter Stitch pattern will work with any number of stitches, so play around with the size to get exactly what you want.

What could be sweeter than a baby cardigan with its own colourwork bunting?

Worked seamlessly from the bottom up with a stranded colourwork yoke and fun ties that extend into the bunting string. The yarn is a super soft cotton, wool, linen and soy blend that comes in great colours, and the flags are a perfect place to use up a little bit of variegated or handspun yarn. Simple seed stitch at the edges are a classic touch.

Terauley is a top-down, elongated triangular shawl that is perfect for showing off your favourite hand-dyed yarns. The textured patterns are easy and quick to work, and the increases worked on the ends of the shawl produce a lovely shape that wraps around your neck. Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock is fabulously smooth and hardwearing, and just 1 skein makes a lovely scarf.

TERRITORY is a cozy, stylish pullover with a pretty, easy slip-stitch colourwork pattern. It looks complex, but you’ll only be working with one colour at a time! The Frieze pattern is echoed on the cuffs, while the rest of the long set-in sleeves offset the patterned body with simple Stockinette. The pieces are worked flat from the bottom up, and seamed before adding the ribbed collar. I’ve used a surprising hot pink for the contrast colour on the back, for an update to a classically styled sweater.

Meant to be worn with -1 to 2” / -2.5 to 5cm ease at the bust. For the best size, measure a sweater you like the fit of, and make the size closest to it. Shown in size 41” / 103cm with zero ease. Technical editing by...
