I developed this pattern as a good introduction to stranded colorwork knitting for people who don’t want to dive right in with a sweater or do something fiddly and small-gauge. It takes part of a skein of Noro Kureyon and part of a skein of Cascade 220. You can substitute with any other multicolor and solid yarn you like, the important point is that you have one of each. The crocheted bottom edge is optional. Ideally, your multicolor yarn will have the solid color in it somewhere, making it “dissolve” into each other (and hence the pattern name).

From now until 31 January 2010, ALL proceeds from Ennis after PayPal fees will go to Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders.

Ennis is a versatile tubular scarf/cowl/neck wrap that can be worn multiple different ways. In addition, there are buttonholes, tabs and button placements that can adjust the scarf for a whole new look each time you wear it. A simple, fun knit that’s equally fun to wear!

This would be stunning in handspun and/or hand-dyed yarn -- be sure to find some big bold buttons to go with it!

I consider this a ‘ripped from the runways’ piece meant for...

Some people see a knitted dissected frog and say “ew!” Some people end up designing a sweater because it gave them an idea. (Note: I am one of the latter)

Exploded View is based on the principle of, what else? exploded view. Sometimes you can’t see the forest for the trees when you’re in the middle of knitting a sweater, and I wanted to create a design that would be

  • easy to knit
  • a good ‘transitional’ pattern for people coming to the world of sweater knitting from, say, scarf knitting
  • a flexible template for you to make your own design decisions
  • flattering and fun
  • a good way to use up stash yarn

Because you’re only working on any one section at a time...

These stylish horseshoe-cable wristwarmers were designed as a simple, quick knit that will also show you how to read a chart and compare it to written directions. The word directions for the cable even line up directly with the same line in the chart!

Their name is a bit of an equine joke -- the fetlock is roughly equivalent, on a horse, to the area these would cover on a human.

Sometimes it’s best to just let the yarn shine through. This soft and squooshy yarn from Alchemy comes in many gorgeous colors and makes an ordinary stitch pattern extraordinary!

You can work any bobble technique you like for the bobbles (knit directions are included in the pattern). But for bobbles that REALLY stand out, check out this tutorial on mid-row crochet bobbles in a knitting pattern from The Holocene!

JOIN THE SUMMER 2010 KNITALONG!

RAVELRY FEATURED PATTERN 1-15 JUNE 2010

Designed with Margaret Ruble (Ravelry: senjiva), these socks are named after the Sanskrit word for bamboo shoot -- the glorious Lemongrass colorway is a reminder that summer will soon be here. Featuring a linen stitch heel, a leafy lace pattern up the front and several bamboo-like stitch motifs, not to mention what we call “the dragon toe,” these socks are well-suited for summer sandal time.

(The dragon toe is a leaf-like lace shape over the big toe: let your fun summer toenail polish peep through! At the time of writing, Shannon’s...

What can I say? This pattern sprang, fully formed, from the yarn ball. (See more preview information here on my blog). She’s been called a lot of things since…Corn Goddess, Tonantzin…but “Maize” stuck. Like ripe corn in a summertime field, with cabled furrows running around the body. You can also omit the sleeves for a tunic-length vest.

The color of Malabrigo used in the yellow sample is called “Frank Ochre” and it’s a stunner -- a lovely, deep yellow with hints of green if you look very closely. Fresh from the field! The green sample is knit in Knit Picks Wool of the Andes in color Green Tea Heather.

This is the official sweater for NaKniSweMo 2008 (see http://www.ravelry.com/groups/nakniswemo-kal) -- we are selling it to raise money for a local no-kill animal shelter. Design by Elaine Hilliard (mom2bassets), pattern by Shannon Okey. Please note Elaine designed this; it’s listed under Shannon Okey to enable selling in her Rav store.

Update (23 Dec 2008):

I rounded up our donation from the official sweater sales to $100 from the $75 in patterns sold. You can see a screenshot of the PayPal receipt here.

If you would like to donate on your own to Berea Animal Rescue, their website is here. Thanks so much, happy holidays, and see you...

This hat is named after “Queen of the Milliners” Caroline Reboux (1837-1927) who – in addition to her hat-related innovations – divided half her profits among the lead cashier, workroom director and other women in her employ. She is perhaps best known for inventing the felt cloche hat. See http://tinyurl.com/reboux for more info on her!

Knit then felted, this pattern includes multiple variations and sizes, just right for the knitter who likes to customize. It takes less than 1 skein of yarn, too! Pattern includes instructions for provisional long tail cast on and special felt finishing techniques.

This began life as my 2008 NaKniSweMo sweater, but as the compliments piled up at the LYS, I decided to offer it for sale as well. It’s extraordinarily flattering for plus-sized women, includes shaping where you need it, and could be knit from just about any yarn you fancy that cables well.

Rivulet features cable shaping, a peplum that looks great on knitters of all sizes, and inset panels under the arm that give a charming swing to the finished piece. The front, neckline and shoulders use garter stitch on all edges for rustic charm, but advanced knitters or cable fans can easily adapt the charts given here to make cabled edges. You could also make seed stitch...

This plant-dyed cardigan was co-designed by Shannon Okey (knitgrrl.com, knitgrrl on Ravelry) and Andi Smith (knitbrit.com, knitbrit on Ravelry)

Depending on how many colors you choose to dye, you may need more or less yarn. A good substitute if you don’t want to dye your own is Blue Sky Alpacas’ beautiful organic cotton, which comes in many shades, including naturally-colored cotton.

This cardigan set’s name is also a woman’s name in Japan: in Japanese 聡 (sato) “wise” + 美 (mi) “beautiful”.

(The implication, of course, is that this sweater set is both clever and good-looking. It comes with one scarf style to get you started, plus a matching hat!)

It is highly customizable both in the knitting and the wearing with its modular collar options. Knit one body in a solid, plain color and go all out with the matching accessory pieces. Let it be your go-to sweater for every day!

This elegant sea silk möbius is knit from Tilli Tomas Soie de la Mer, an astonishingly soft seaweed/silk yarn. You can make it bigger if you like, or add even more lumps and bumps to make it resemble something from the briny deep. A relatively quick knit and a great way to get the most from this lovely yarn in one skein!
