Sunset over Whitefish Lake PDF

Designed by Bonnie Dean

This pattern is part of the Indie Designer Gift-a-Long 2016.

As I was refining and knitting my latest shawl pattern, I attended a beautiful wedding on Whitefish Lake in northern Montana. The sky was clear blue, then sky and mountains turned shades of lavender and purple as the sunset progressed. The “hills” in the lace pattern will always remind me of the distant landscape and the couple’s special day!

My Sunset shawl is an asymmetric triangle, starting with two cast on stitches, predominantly in Garter stitch. Garter stitch stripes, German short rows and my sunset-colored mountain lace are its features. The fingering-weight hand dyed yarn from The Farmers Daughter Fibers is a lovely blend of Bluefaced Leicester and nylon. The Icelandic bind off provides a perfect ending.

May I also suggest any fingering weight, one skein semisolid/tonal PLUS one skein variegated/speckled such as Blue Moon Fibers Socks That Rock Lightweight, Sweet Georgia Tough Love Sock, Blue Moon BFL Fingering AND Phydeaux Yarns fingerings.

My shawl is one size. After blocking the Garter st gauge is:
25 sts and 26 rows = 4”/10 cm

Materials: Approximately 360 yds/330 m of fingering-weight yarn in Color A and 330 yds/305 m in Color B

Shown in: THE FARMERS DAUGHTER FIBERS Rocky Mountain Purls (80% superwash Bluefaced Leicester wool, 20% nylon; 400 yds/366 m, 3.53 oz/100 g per skein): colorways Color A North Wind – 1 skein and Color B Missoula Saturday Night – 1 skein
