Reversible Eyelet Cables Stole PDF

Designed by Jackie Erickson-Schweitzer

This classically stylish stole in hand dyed yarn features mock cables with a border of herringbone lace. A special technique is used in this pattern to alternate two balls of hand dyed yarn every row in a way that avoids both yarn strands being carried up the same edge.

Size: 18” by 64”
Yarn: fingering weight: 2 skeins at 400 yards each (total 800 yards)
Suggested needles: US 7 (4.5 mm); although the stole is knitted flat, a circular needle is required so that knitting a row can begin from either end of the needle
Gauge: 19 stitches = 4 inches
Other notions:
tapestry needle for finishing ends
blocking board and rust proof blocking wires/pins
Construction: beginning cast on is 88 stitches; worked flat in rows from end to end in one piece; no sewing or grafting
Stitches used: knit, purl, knit 2 stitches together, purl 2 stitches together, slip, pass slipped stitch over, yarn over
Stitch instructions: charted and written
Special technique: alternating 2 skeins of hand-dyed yarn every row in a way that avoids both yarn strands being carried up the same edge
Skill level: intermediate with an open mind to working rows of knitting in an uncommon sequence
