Seek balance with our "String Mandala Socks" ...
Featuring Schoppel Woole's Zauberball Crazy yarn
Our next exciting travel destination takes us to the colorful region of Tibet! The home of the Himalaya Mountains and Mount Everest, Tibet is the highest region on earth, and offers stunning high-altitude views.
Its rich culture is closely tied to Tibetan Buddhism, the dominant religion, and it's symbols show up everywhere in the culture including art, music, and festivals.
One of the primary symbols in Tibetan Buddhism is the beautiful and colorful mandala, and we pay tribute to this colorful figure with Amy's String Mandala socks! Mandala literally means "circle" in Sanskrit, but within Buddhism, it is symbolic of the universe, and can be an aid in meditation. It's basic form is symmetrical and balanced and consists of circles and squares moving out from a center point, often with four gates on the sides. More pictures of Tibetan Mandalas (Google Images).
The unique String Mandala Socks reflect the traditional circular mandala with simple colorwork and a self-striping yarn ... the effect is ... well, ethereal !
Thank you to Sue for your suggestion of a Tibetan Mandala that inspired this month's sock!

The spectacular colorwork of these socks is deceptively simple. Only two colors are used - a solid color and a self-striping color - to create these unique and fun socks.
Worked from the top down, you start with a little ribbing, then you create the beautiful mandala on the top of the leg using stranded colorwork. Then knit in the rest of the way down to the toes, letting the self-striping Zauberball Crazy yarn do all fabulous color shifting for you. Throw in a eye of partridge heel and these socks will be ready for your next Himalayan travel adventure!
Schoppel Wolle's Zauberball Crazy

See the Light in our "Celestial Light Socks" ...
Featuring Mountain Colors' Crazyfoot yarn
Despite its small and humble exterior, the Sainte-Chapelle, located in Paris, is a gem of French High Gothic architecture. Completed in 1248, the interior gives a a strong sense of fragile beauty, created by reducing the structural supports to a bare minimum to make way for huge expanse of exquisite stained glass ... the result ... a feeling of being enveloped in light and color!
Each of the 15 meter high stained glass windows depict 1,113 scenes from the Old and New Testaments recounting the history of the world. There are 6,458 square feet of stained glass windows in the upper chapel, all surrounded by delicate painted stonework. More information on Sainte-Chapelle.
The unique and classic Celestial Light Socks incorporate the colors of the stonework and the delicate colors of the stained glass windows. The socks are knit in two colors of Mountain Colors ever popular, machine-washable Crazyfoot yarn, and are perfect for both men and women.
Knit some "stained glass" for a truly inspirational sock knitting experience!
Thank you to Judy and Rachel for your suggestion of Sainte Chapelle that inspired this month's sock!
Celestial Light Sock Kits
by Amy Loberg
Pattern included in Kit
The Celestial Light socks are a unique top-down colorwork sock that blends two colors, one solid and one varigated, to perfectly represent the exquisite architecture and stained glass of the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris France.
Stranded colorwork is used to represent beautiful glass windows on the leg of the sock, which is extended all the way down the top of the foot. An unusual heel construction mixed with vertical lines of color extend down the back and base of the foot, which also re-enforces these heavily worn areas.
Add a pop of celestial color to your collection with these unique socks!
