Sock of the Month: “Colorado River” Socks

Explore Grand Canyon in our "Colorado River Socks" ...
Featuring Dream in Color's Smooshy with Cashmere yarn!

The Grand Canyon in northern Arizona, is one of the largest canyons on earth.  The immensity of its landscape is hard to grasp … even when viewed from the best vantage points accessible in Grand Canyon National Park!

At the heart of the 277 mile long canyon runs the Colorado River, whose course through the area was established 5 to 6 million years ago. Since then, the river has been at work creating depths over a mile deep and widths up to 18 miles wide ... and it's still going! It is no surprise that this awe-inspiring canyon is a holy site for the Native Americans who have continuously inhabited the area for thousands of years.

The Colorado River Socks pay homage to the powerful river that helped shape this natural wonder. To celebrate one of America's favorite parks, our friends Nancy and Veronica at Dream in Color yarns created this gorgeous custom color reflecting the beautiful hues of the canyon ... and then road-tripped to take some terrific pictures!

Colorado River Socks

by Amy Loberg

Worked from the toe up, the Colorado River Socks have a flowing slip stitch and cable pattern running up the center on both front and back. This is framed on each side with a lace chevron stitch reminiscent of the many layers of rock in the canyon. The socks also feature a full gusset and a robust slip stitch heel. Visions of the glorious canyon and the river that runs through it will greet you each time you wear the Colorado River Socks!

Sock of the Month: “Stout Grove” Socks!

Sock of the Month: Paradise Meadow Socks
Walk Among Giants in these “Stout Grove Socks” …
Featuring Dream in Color's Jilly Yarn
Sock of the Month Logo Inspired by the majesty and serenity of the redwoods of northern California, the “Stout Grove Socks” capture the subtle colors and textures of these magical parks.
There are lots of opportunities to visit the redwoods in northern California, including the “Redwoods National Park” , located north of Eureka. No matter what park you visit, you will be amazed by these giant redwoods that can reach the width of a three-lane highway and the height of a 25-story building!
Pictures of these socks were modeled by none-other than our very own Amy while on a visit to San Francisco. It’s easy to find a park full of redwoods … take your walk among the giants!

Stout Grove Socks
by Amy Loberg
These richly textured top-down socks are deceptively simple to knit. The texture is the result of a simple six-stitch eyelet pattern as delicate as the foliage of the seedling Sequoia. Plus, the patterning is on the leg of the sock while the foot is all smooth Stockinette stitch. The pattern offers three sizes for the little sprouts up to the um … much taller trees.
Bonus: All of the instructions—for either double points or two circulars—are written out, so if you don't like charts, this project is very knittable!
