Sock of the Month: “Celestial Light” Socks

FiberWild Sock of the Month: Celestial Light Socks

See the Light in our "Celestial Light Socks" ...
Featuring Mountain Colors' Crazyfoot yarn

Despite its small and humble exterior, the Sainte-Chapelle, located in Paris, is a gem of French High Gothic architecture. Completed in 1248, the interior gives a a strong sense of fragile beauty, created by reducing the structural supports to a bare minimum to make way for huge expanse of exquisite stained glass ... the result ... a feeling of being enveloped in light and color!

Each of the 15 meter high stained glass windows depict 1,113 scenes from the Old and New Testaments recounting the history of the world.  There are 6,458 square feet of stained glass windows in the upper chapel, all surrounded by delicate painted stonework.  More information on Sainte-Chapelle.

The unique and classic Celestial Light Socks incorporate the colors of the stonework and the delicate colors of the stained glass windows. The socks are knit in two colors of Mountain Colors ever popular, machine-washable Crazyfoot yarn, and are perfect for both men and women.

Knit some "stained glass" for a truly inspirational sock knitting experience!

Thank you to Judy and Rachel for your suggestion of Sainte Chapelle that inspired this month's sock!

Celestial Light Sock Kits

by Amy Loberg

Pattern included in Kit

The Celestial Light socks are a unique top-down colorwork sock that blends two colors, one solid and one varigated, to perfectly represent the exquisite architecture and stained glass of the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris France.

Stranded colorwork is used to represent beautiful glass windows on the leg of the sock, which is extended all the way down the top of the foot.  An unusual heel construction mixed with vertical lines of color extend down the back and base of the foot, which also re-enforces these heavily worn areas.

Add a pop of celestial color to your collection with these unique socks!

Sock of the Month: “Lost City” Socks

Visit the ancient stone city of Petra with our "Lost City" Socks ...
Featuring Mountain Colors' River Wash Sport yarn ... 20% OFF!

One of the New 7 Wonders of the World, Petra is a famous archaeological city in southern Jordan and is the country's most-visited tourist attraction. Founded by the once-nomadic Nabataean tribe as early at 312 BC, the city is carved out of rose colored sandstone and includes a sophisticated water collection system. At its height, 30,000 people thrived in this desert oasis!

Petra was lost to the outside world for over 600 years ... from the time of the Crusades.  Then, in 1812, Jean Louis Burckhardt made his way thru the narrow valley leading to the lost city.  Discoveries are still happening in Petra today with only 15% of the city uncovered while the remaining 85% sits untouched underground.

The Nabataean tribe used their knowledge of the desert to establish trade routes which allowed contact and influence from other civilizations. As a result, the architectural style of Petra is a mixture of Egyptian, Assyrian, Hellenistic, Mesopotamian and Roman infused with Nabataean flourishes.

Knit in the perfect color to reflect the rose sandstone of Petra, Amy translated the geometric shapes of the city's most famous attractions, The Monastery and The Treasury, into the textural design seen on the Lost City Socks!

Sock of the Month: “Saudade” Socks

Take a trip to beautiful Brazil in our colorful "Saudade" Socks ...
Featuring Mountain Colors' Perspectives in Crazyfoot yarn!

The vibrant country of Brazil, with its layered and colorful history, is the inspiration for our gorgeous "Saudade" Socks. The former Portuguese colony has a diverse population of indigenous Americans, descendants of African slaves and European settlers. The country's landscape is just as varied ... from white-sand beaches to lush rainforests and large urban centers ... the country's diversity is famous around the world!

History and landscape combine to create the unique culture of the Brazilian people. It seems they are adept at celebrating happiness and sadness in tandem. For example, the annual Carnaval celebration is a feast of merry-making before the more sober 40 days of Lent ... and Bossa Nova, a genre of Brazilian music featuring the rhythmic patterns of Samba that originated in former African slave communities.

Saudade is described as a "Portuguese way of life" and is the feeling of nostalgia that brings sad and happy feelings altogether. Celebrate life like the people of Brazil with these beautiful socks!
