The Project

"Behind the Scenes" Cowl

Free pattern posted
Progressively during the KAL

Michelle's knit alongs (KALs) are mystery knit alongs. So there are no preliminary photos ... all we know is that the finished cowl is one size about 8 1/2" wide by 47" long and will feature a cable.  If history has teaches us anything ... this design will be amazing!

All of the techniques Michelle uses will be supported by her video tutorials and she answers questions daily on her website and Ravelry group. Michelle's instructions, tutorials and videos have made her KALs extremely popular ... think of her KAL as an online class, worth far more than the price of admission — which is, of course, Free!!

You can also connect, ask questions, share photos, and get help via the Knit Purl Hunter KAL Ravelry group. You're also encouraged to share progress photos to the FiberWild and Friends group on Ravelry.

The KAL is FREE and Skacel is sponsoring a drawing for one grand prize and two second place prizes. For more information on prizes and how to enter visit SkacelKnitting.com.

Note: After Nov. 15 the pattern will not be free on KnitPurlHunter.com!
It will be available for $6.00 as a Ravelry ePattern.

The shawl starts with a provisional cast on for an applied border. Following this, are nine progressive lace patterns with garter stitch edges and rows of garter stitch between each section to give them each a nice frame. Beads are used in one of the patterns and on the borders. Once finished, you will have a gorgeous sampler shawl to showcase your lace knitting skills!

A note on beads: Beads are added in Section #5 and in the borders. Look for high-quality beads with a consistent barrel opening. Bring your yarn when purchasing the seed beads to ensure that a doubled strand will slip through the bead using the crochet hook.

Gauge is extremely important in this project from a yardage standpoint!  When knit to the recommended gauge, the shawl uses five skeins of Rylie with approximately 110 yards / 40g remaining. While the shawl doesn’t actually have to “fit”, properly sized stitches will use the recommended amount of yarn. Larger stitches use more yarn, potentially causing a shortage. Take the time to knit a swatch to assess the stitches, and change needle sizes if necessary.
